Guided hike to the summit of Guadeloupe's Soufrière Mountain

 

Guided walk at the summit of Guadeloupe's Soufrière with a qualified guide, get up close to volcanic activity, an unusual hiking experience not to be missed.

Go to the summit of La Soufrière, to discover an explosive volcano active in Guadeloupe, where your guide will explain volcanism and its influence on the island of Guadeloupe. Equipped with your gas mask (supplied), you'll enter the active zone of the Soufrière volcano, which is closed to the public, and be amazed by the chasms and permanent fumaroles.

 

Process

 

Preparation :

Your guide will be waiting for you at the Bains Jaunes parking lot in Saint-Claude. As soon as the group is complete, your guide will brief you on the itinerary and progress of your hike on Guadeloupe's Soufrière volcano. He also hands out a gas mask to everyone.

Departure:

First, the ascent of Pas du Roy with 200 m of ascent to reach the foot of the Soufrière volcano. After that, you're at the Savane à Mulets and the difficulties begin. Then we really begin the ascent on the very flank of the Soufrière volcano. You're now on a real mountain trail.

At the summit :

So here you are, at the summit of Guadeloupe's Soufrière, on a summit plateau at 1467 metres. And it's time to don your gas masks. As the fumaroles roar, you'll be surprised by the smell of sulfur emanating from the various craters. Then it's time to head back down, and weather permitting, your guide chooses a different route to discover another face of the mountain.

Arrival:

The guided hike to the summit of Guadeloupe's Soufrière takes you to the Bains Jaunes, a stone pool heated naturally by the Soufrière volcano. After the climb, the bath is refreshing!
And this is also where the cars meet and where you part company with your guide.

  • The weather on the volcano can change rapidly, so make sure you have everything you need for your hiking gear.
