A secret waterfall in Vieux-Habitants, a hike to Cascade Paradis, after Domaine de la Grivelière, for a swim in an unusual spot in Guadeloupe.
A pool of turquoise water with volcanic organs.
Leaving from Vieux-Habitants
To get to the start of the hike, the road will leave you with unforgettable memories: you have to get to the bottom of the valley on a mountainside; and as we don't have any icy conditions in Guadeloupe, the roads aren't winding but vertical!
Departure from La Grivelière
We start the hike at Cascade Paradis at the bottom of the Grande-Rivière valley, one of Guadeloupe's largest rivers.
We're in a place where ancient plantations mingle with tropical vegetation: mango, cocoa, coffee and guava trees...a real treasure when it's fruit season!
Arriving at the river
Right in the heart of the Guadeloupe National Park, we first cross the Grande Plaine river to skirt the rainforest dotted with coffee and cocoa trees. The sun's rays light up the waterfall, making this hike to Cascade Paradis a magical late-morning experience.
A tropical immersion, with adults or family, to discover Guadeloupe in a different way, the Cascade Paradis is an unusual hike.
The Guadeloupe rainforest
A world biosphere reserve: Basse-Terre
Your guide will explain this exceptional tropical forest. Basse-Terre is a UNESCO World Biosphere Reserve.
You'll learn all about vegetation: did Tarzan hang himself from vines or roots?! And how do these tall trees stay upright?
You're in the "Côte-sous-le-vent", home of ancient coffee plantations, including the delicious Arabica coffee. In the afternoon, we recommend a visit to the Vanibel plantation: Joël Nelson has taken over the family plantation and shares his passion with you, making you taste his Arabica coffee. You can also visit the Chaulet coffee house.
Vieux-Habitants was one of the first towns to be inhabited by humans. On Simaho beach, you'll find a number of excellent, inexpensive restaurants serving Creole dishes including fresh snapper, sea bream, tuna and poulet boucané.
