From the age of 8 upwards, you can take your children on a hike to La Soufrière: not only is it an active volcano, it's also a mountain peak.
And here are a few tips to motivate them!
The summit plateau in fine weather is rare but exceptional.
Before the Soufrière hike
Volcanism fascinates young and old alike: children are captivated by volcanoes as early as elementary school.
A few revisions are in order:
There are two types of volcano: red and grey. Ours is grey.
Small revisions
Your guide will imagery for the kids to understand, and you're off on an experiential hike, with the smell and sound coming from the craters.
Specific equipment
It's the weather that increases the difficulty of the hike: you're on one of the wettest peaks in the world, so bring rain gear, a warm top and a good pair of sneakers, shorts are sufficient.
We provide child-friendly gas masks.
And at the end of the hike, the small reward is a swim in the Bains Jaunes. Leave your bathing suits and change of clothes in your vehicle.
